This week has been, well, a LOT.  After all, just this Wednesday, we witnessed an attempted coup on the US government by domestic terrorists, the first major attack on the Capitol since 1814. Let that sink in. So, if you need a break from the news right now, we totally understand.

So, take a look at a few of the things that are bringing us some much-needed joy and peace this week.

Wholeheartedly Bingeing….

“Soul”… Featuring the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, and Daveed Diggs, this incredible animated feature will give you multiple reasons to smile while reminding you to appreciate the simple joys of life. Now streaming on Disney+.

Season Four of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”….We totally admit to being horror fans, and this dark, sinister version of our favorite teen witch and her life in Greendale has managed to keep us deliciously entertained every season since its 2018 debut on Netflix. In the fourth and final season, Sabrina and her friends tackle their biggest foes yet – the Eldridge Terrors, plagues that, if unstopped, could completely destroy the world.

Sylvie’s Love… Debuting on December 23rd and starring Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha, this beautiful period piece tells the story of an aspiring tv producer and jazz saxophonist who fall in love in 1950’s Harlem. Tune in for the incredible love story and stay for the swoon-worthy costumes. Now available on Amazon Prime.

A Little Career Inspo….

Should You Try to Negotiate a Raise During the Pandemic? Fair question. This M Dash article not only answers that question, but also provides helpful tips for making the ask. After all, pandemic or not, you still got bills to pay.

Season Two of “Going Through It”

Season 2 of this incredible podcast hosted by the incomparable Tracy Clayton features interviews with 14 dynamic black women who each discuss a turning point in their lives where they said “no” to the things, people, and situations that were no longer serving them and began saying “yes” to everything that did.

With interviewees such as U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, Actress Danielle Brooks, and Girlfriends creator Mara Brock Akil, we dare you to not be inspired.

We were especially fond of Clayton’s live interview with none other than the Tamron Hall whose magnificent comeback story from a very public firing to hosting her own Emmy award-winning talk show is proof of how far you can go when you never give up on yourself, your talents, or your dreams.

And Avidly Reading…

My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite – If reading more books is one of your New Year’s resolutions, then we suggest you start with this tome.

Korede is the beleaguered, responsible, older sister of Ayoola, her beautiful sibling who has a tendency to murder her boyfriends, leaving Korede to, quite literally, clean up behind her. But, when Ayoola sets her eyes on the kind doctor that Korede has secretly been in love with, Korede must decide between saving her sister and keeping her murderous secrets or saving the man she loves.

Told with a wry sense of wit and humor, this quick read is delightfully entertaining as it explores the age-old question of how far we’re willing to go for the sake of family.
