Living in Fear…
I loooooove Halloween.
The thrill of a fantastic horror movie, the chance to dress up in an alluring costume or two, plus the fact that it is literally an entire day dedicated to obtaining all the free candy you could possibly want or ingest, has always made Halloween a day close to both my heart and indomitable sweet tooth.
But this year, Halloween hits and feels different.
For starters, we’re living through a real-life apocalypse. The world is literally burning (Hello, West Coast…) while the country and world at large struggles to deal with a virus whose transmission we still don’t completely understand. And then there’s all of the civil unrest that we’re experiencing as a nation as we continue to witness the unlawful murders of black men and women at the hands of the police while contending with an administration that’s hellbent on ignoring the needs and concerns of communities of color. 2020 has proven to be a year of fear, uncertainty, and tumult for all of us.
That’s why, in this inaugural edition of AmPopsy, we’re running a series of articles around fear – its impact on us physically and mentally, effective strategies to keep fear from overwhelming and paralyzing us, and how to move forward in spite of fear.
We are living through one of the most difficult years in modern history. But that doesn’t mean that we have to live in fear. We can still make the choice to live boldly, believing that our futures are still good, and that our best days are still ahead of us.
